Strategic Planning Online (SPOL) is the software platform provided by the office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research to help departments with developing annual goals, objectives, actions, and assessments. Attached is the SPOL document produced by the College Libraries at the outset of the 2020-21 academic year.
Objective Description: Enhance program offerings, processes, instructional support, and online and on-campus instructional environments to achieve program benchmarks.
Tasks/Strategies: | Progress: |
Join the Springshare LibAnswers Cooperative to provide online library reference services to students and faculty outside of campus library operating hours, particularly during late evenings and weekends. | We joined the cooperative and this has been successful, providing students with access to librarian support outside of operating hours. |
Develop and expand the Library’s print and eBook collection of textbooks for course reserves. | While we did add some eBook version of textbooks, print textbooks were out of circulation during all of 2020-21 due to concern over COVID risks. |
Support the use of Accudemia software to track student attendance at library instruction sessions. The data collected is analyzed by the IER office to correlate attendance at library instruction with student success indicators. | Use of the Accudemia software was suspended in 2020-21 due to cost. It is anticipated that the new EAB Navigate platform will eventually offer similar analytics. |
Enhance online resources focusing on Baccalaureate programs. |
Although new online information resources were added in 2020-21, they weren't specifically targeted at the college's Bachelor programs. |
Renovate Sanford/Lake Mary library, removing some bookshelves and adding individual study seating (Steelcase Brody workstations). | This renovation was actually (mostly) achieved right after the end of the Summer 2021 term. Brody Worklounges are expected to arrive in October 2021. |
Create and support events that can be related to maintaining the college's Read to Succeed initiative. | The Library's Marketing team carried out some online programming in 2020-21 to support the legacy Read to Succeed initiatiive. |
Develop a plan to assess student and faculty needs for library resources and spaces. | As space use was very limited at the campus libraries in 20202-21 due to the pandemic, we hope to address this task in 2021-22. |
Develop library marketing plan for Altamonte campus. | Again, as space use at Altamonte was limited by the pandemic, we hope to address this task in 2021-22. |
Objective Description: Improve student persistence and completion rates while maintaining academic quality, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
Tasks/Strategies: | Progress: |
Implement multiple methods to assess impact of library instruction on Student Learning Outcome #4 (Information Literacy). | The collegewide Student Learning Outcome (SLO) on Information Literacy is at the top of the list after a revision of all SLOs. During 2020-21 many academic departments mapped their courses to this SLO, and Information Literacy is featured in the new First Year Experience Course. We plan to investigate methods to assess the impact of information literacy instruction in these courses in 2021-22. |
Plan and create standardized information literacy modules to embed directly in Canvas courses. | Several new modules were developed and added to Canvas Commons, available for faculty to use within their Canvas courses. |
Plan and create standardized lesson plans for in-person and online classes. | The new First Year Experience course (IDS 1107), with a templated syllabus, is also providing an opportunity for librarians to utilize a standard assignment and grading rubric across all sections when the course starts in Fall 2021. |
Plan and create more online resource guides (LibGuides) targeted specifically to Altamonte programs and course. | This task was not addressed in 2020-21. |
Objective Description: Develop faculty and staff capabilities and provide professional development opportunities for employees to excel in an environment of shared governance and collaboration.
Tasks/Strategies: | Progress: |
Encourage professional development for librarians and paraprofessional staff. | Several Librarians and Library Staff participated in a variety of professional development opportunities in 2020-21. |
