2022-23 Faculty Survey

Results Summary:

Total faculty responses:

  • 125 full time faculty responded (includes teaching faculty)
  • 134 adjunct faculty responded (includes college employees who teach as adjuncts)

These numbers are smaller than last year. It could be that we got less responses because of the timing of the survey. However, these numbers are 35.43% of the faculty who received the survey. That’s still an adequate response rate.

Faculty by area:

  • Arts and Sciences 58.69%
  • Business, Health, and Public Safety 24.71%
  • Construction, Design, Engineering, and Information Technologies 16.60%

Overview:

  • 62.55% of faculty said they participated in professional development sponsored by the college in the Fall 2022
  • 52.73% of faculty saying they spent 1-9 hours on professional development during the Fall.
  • 58.37% of faculty said they participated in professional development sponsored by an organization other than the college.

Academic Affairs Welcome Back 2022:

  • 94% of faculty said they attended.
  • 87% of the faculty who attended rated Welcome Back as having high value or moderate value.
  • 71% reported learning new teaching strategies
  • 83% reported that they were able to apply these strategies in their classroom.

Adjunct Academy Fall 2022:

  • 9% of faculty said they attended Adjunct Academy.
  • 66% of faculty who attended rated Adjunct Academy as having a high value or moderate value.
  • 21.60% said they learned new strategies.
  • 93.48% said they incorporated these strategies into their teaching,
  • 92.86% said these new techniques improved student engagement or achievement.

New Faculty Orientation and New Faculty Academy Fall 2022-2023:

New faculty were surveyed separately on MS Forms. We received six submittals from the nineteen new faculty members who were sent the survey.

  • 100% of those faculty members rated New Faculty Orientation and Academy as having high and moderate value.
  • 100% said they learned new strategies,
  • 100% said they incorporated these strategies into their teaching, and
  • 100% said the strategies improved student engagement or achievement.

One-time workshop or series Fall 2022:

  • 75.50% of faculty rated these workshops as having high to moderate value.
  • 82.72% of faculty said they acquired new teaching strategies,
  • 77.78% said they incorporated them into their classrooms, and
  • 90.32% said this improved student engagement or achievement.

These are the participation rates for the following:

  • NISOD 20%
  • Academic Impressions 22.86%
  • Monday Morning Mentor 34.29%
  • Other (please specify below) 44.29%

The category of “Other” includes a wide range of groups including book publishers, many discipline specific professional organizations, AFC, FLVC, ACE Women’s Network, Quality Matters, and other colleges or universities.

    • 92.96% of faculty rated these workshops as having high to moderate value.
    • 85.92% of faculty said they learned new strategies
    • 79.17% of faculty said they incorporated these strategies into their teaching,
    • 92.59% said these new strategies improved student engagement or achievement.

Future workshops:

In terms of how faculty want to participate in future professional development:

  • 44.49% prefer online on Canvas as their first choice,
  • 28.94% prefer live on Zoom as their first choice,
  • 33.76% prefer in person as their first choice.

This is the third year that faculty show a marked preference for online courses.

The Quality Online Course Training fills that need.

But one online training course isn’t enough.
