The 2023-24 academic year was an incredibly productive one for the Seminole State College Libraries! In our campus libraries we renovated several spaces to make them more versatile to support student learning and student engagement, and we even moved the entire library at the Heathrow campus to better serve the students there! In the college's physical and virtual classrooms our library faculty worked on scaffolding and assessing information literacy instruction, and held many research consultations with individual students in-person and online. Our "Research Rallies" on YouTube gained in popularity, and many students also took advantage of the library's 24/7 chat service. At our front service desks, our library team members greeted students, faculty, staff, and community guests -- traffic was up at all campus libraries -- and they answered a ton of questions and provided many referrals. We also added many new print and electronic resources to our library collections, both for curricular support and for recreational enjoyment, and the libraries continued to serve a critical role as the distribution point for laptops and calculators for student use.
The Libraries also partnered with the Academic Success Centers to embark on a new marketing campaign using the "Nerdbird" logo (see below) to promote the value of the college's academic support resources. It was truly an impactful year, as through this campaign the libraries forged new relationships and strengthened existing partnerships with a variety of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs departments, all with the goal of serving students and helping them succeed inside and outside of the classroom. Truly, our team of innovative, creative, and service-minded library staff and faculty have laid a strong foundation to build on in the next academic year!
