Peer Reference at SSC

Use this guide to refer to for training LA's and Student Workers interested in developing their peer reference skills

1. Define Your Search Topic: 

Start Broad and then get specific.

Example: Pizza (Broad) -> History of Pizza in Italy (Narrow).


2. Source Type:

- Primary: Authentic recipes. 

- Secondary: An article about pizza's cultural impact in Naples. 


3. Resource Type: 

- Book, ebook, journal, article, multimedia. 


4. Catalog Search Tips: (Narrow with filters like Title, Author, or Subject:

- Title: INSIDE NAPLES WORLD - FAMOUS PIZZA CULTURE

- Author: Franz Lids.

- Subject: Culinary history or Italian culture.

 


5. Advanced Search: 

- Combine keywords for specificity using Pizza restaurants and Italy 

- Add filters:

Date: 2013-2017

Format: Article


6. Not in the Catalog?

If it's a physical book, then you can do a Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request!
